Sonia Esmaeillou
I am a Toronto-based painter who merges classical realism with dynamic, expressive brushwork. Working primarily in oil and acrylic, I often leave sections of a painting intriguingly unfinished – visible sketch lines or bold gestural strokes – to create a contrast between fine detail and raw texture. This approach invites you, the viewer, to engage your imagination and complete the story in your own mind. Being of Persian heritage and living in Canada, I naturally infuse influences from both cultures into my art. In some pieces, you might spot subtle Persian motifs or calligraphic patterns woven into a contemporary composition. I see art as a conversation beyond words, a space where different parts of my identity meet on the canvas. Through each artwork, I aim to evoke wonder and introspection – whether I'm depicting a quiet, realistic moment or an arresting burst of color.

My Manifesto
Every Moment Counts
Art is Discovery
Every painting begins as a mystery. Each brushstroke is an act of exploration—a search for balance between detail and freedom, precision and spontaneity. Through my art, I aim to capture life's fleeting moments, inviting the viewer to pause, connect, and feel something deeper. I believe art should never be fully complete; it should remain open, raw, and alive—much like life itself.
Life in Art
In art as in life, every moment counts. Each painting I create is a snapshot of a feeling, an idea, or an experience that mattered deeply enough to capture. Whether it's the quiet intimacy of realism or the bold uncertainty of an unfinished brushstroke, each piece embodies the importance of living and creating with intention. My work is a reminder to myself—and perhaps to you—that beauty exists in the details we often overlook.
